Palemon Best
The real name of this park is Palemon Best Recreation Ground. What an unusual name! The land was left to the town of St Ives by Dr Palemon Best (died 1927). Dr Best practised medicine in St Ives and was the medical officer to the Admiralty and Poor Law Guardians, as well as Public Vaccinator. The land was given as an open space with free access to the public. Hence the name Palemon Best Recreation Area. It is a bit of a mouth full though and most people I know call it Penbeagle Park!
How To Get There
Penbeagle Park is half way up Penbeagle Lane, near the Fire Station off The Stennack.
