High up on top of The Island in St Ives is the NCI station (National Coastwatch Institution).
The NCI St Ives station opened in 1999 and over 40 fully trained, volunteer watch keepers operate the station during normal working hours. There is also an emergency team on standby, 24 hours a day every day.
From the station, the team monitors the weather and sea conditions, coastal activity, and provide vital information to all users of the sea and coast.
They also work closely with the RNLI, HM Coastguard, RN Air Sea Rescue and HM Customs and Excise.
Another important role they undertake is observing the coastal and marine life. If you follow NCI St Ives on Facebook they often post about the marine life they have spotted in the bay.
Running costs of the NCI St Ives station are covered only by public donation, so please donate if you can.
As well as taking direct donations, there is a fab little second hand book shop at the side of the station.
The Great St Ives Pasty Dash Game
The NCI Station in St Ives is so iconic and important it had to be included on our game, The Great St Ives Pasty Dash!
