Lots of people seem to have the idea that dogs are banned on the beaches in St Ives. This simply isn't true. Yes, there are some dog bans during the Summer months, but only on certain beaches. And they aren't as harsh as they use to be.
When to dog ban is in place, you can still take your dogs onto all beaches BEFORE 10am and AFTER 6pm. So early morning and evening walks are still okay.
Dog Friendly Beaches All Year Round
There are 3 beaches in St Ives which you can take your dog on all year round.
Bamaluz Beach
Bamaluz Beach is probably the best year round dog friendly beach. It is tucked away behind the harbour, so you might have missed it.
Getting There
Walk along the harbour to Smeaton's Pier. Turn left at the fork in the road, and walk along Wheal Dream until you see the St Ives Museum. There is a sign to the beach there. To get onto Bamaluz Beach you need to walk down some steps.
High Tide
At low tide there is lots of sandy beach for your dog to run around on. At high tide a lot of this disappears, so do check the tides before you go.

Breakwater Beach
Breakwater Beach is the beach on the seaward side of Smeaton's Pier.
Getting There
Walk along the harbour to Smeaton's Pier and go down the slipway by New Pier.
High Tide
At low tide there is a big stretch of sand that take your all the way down to Smeaton's Pier lighthouse. At high tide this completely disappears, so again do check the tides before you go.
You can't take your dog past the lighthouse during July and August.

Lambeth Beach
Lambeth Beach is the rocky beach on the far side of the harbour, behind the RNLI station.
Getting There
Walk along the harbour to the RNLI gift shop and take the pathway there past the toilets. The beach is access across the rocks there, so it is a bit of a scramble.
High Tide
At low tide there is a nice stretch of sand in front of the rocky bit. At high tide this does disappear.
You can't take your dog past the end of West Pier during July and August.

Porthkidney Sands
A short drive out of St Ives to Lelant will bring you to Porthkidney Sands. This is a HUGE beach and is dog friendly all year round. It doesn't have any nearby facilities though - like loos, so bear this in mind before you visit.
